Continued Sponsor Support Means Success

Without your help, none of this would be possible!

Our success lies solely on the support of Valley businesses and residents that have listened to our vision and embraced it.  Businesses that host one of our collection boxes or members of the community that make clothing donations  to us help us provide support to local children in need. Through the collection of new and gently used clothing, linens and paired shoes from these boxes we anticipate to generate enough funds to be able to donate approximately one million dollars to local children’s charities by the end of the year.

History of Swift Charities for Children

Jerry Moyes, founder of Swift Transportation, is the moving force behind Swift Charities for Children.  His commitment to the community and dedication to children’s issues motivated his creation of this 501 (c)(3), nonprofit organization in 2004.  His concept and mission are simple but effective: to raise money for Arizona charities that provide professional and reputable services to give hope to local children in need.

Since 2004, Swift Charities for Children has been able to create partnerships with The Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix, Banner Health Foundation and the YMCA’s of the West Valley .  Each of these organizations is working on amazing projects for the underprivileged and less fortunate youth of Arizona and we are proud to help them achieve their goals.  Swift Charities for Children has also been fortunate enough to form alliances with: the Suns Charities, the Diamondbacks Charities, the Coyotes Charities, FRIENDS of the Phoenix Public Library and The Forever Young Foundation.  These organizations work closely with Swift Charities for Children to help us fulfill our mission while we help them fulfill theirs.

Swift Charities for Children’s Unique Mission

There are several collection programs in the Valley that might appear to be doing the same thing that we are.  What sets us apart from these other programs is that 100% of the proceeds generated from our efforts are donated directly back to a variety of local children’s charities.  The charitable funds that we generate do not end up in the pockets of clever entrepreneurs and they are not restricted to one children’s organization.

East Valley : Banner Children’s Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center

Swift Charities for Children has committed $500,000.00 over five years to Banner Children’s Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center in the East Valley .  A new seven-story children’s hospital tower is the centerpiece of a major expansion project underway at Banner Desert Medical Center . The new children’s facility will be built with the unique needs of children in mind, featuring whimsical and interactive displays, separate “pain free” play areas, family gathering spaces, and themed units…all designed through the eyes of a child.

Banner Children’s Hospital offers comprehensive pediatric care. The hospital’s highly experienced pediatric specialists and staff are specially trained to put children at ease, and Child Life Specialists know just the right things to do and say to reduce the stress and anxiety many children and their families experience while in the hospital. As Arizona ’s population grows, Banner Children’s Hospital is growing as well to meet the health care needs of the newest members of our community.

Downtown: Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix

Our partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix is helping to construct the newest Clubhouses in the Valley.  Thanks to a variety of efforts, including a recent clothing drive we held at US Airways Center in collaboration with the Phoenix Suns Charities, Swift Charities for Children raised $50,000 that will be donated to help build the new Jerry Colangelo Clubhouse!  Swift Charities for Children will be presenting a $50,000 check to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix this April during the second Suns playoff game at US Airways Center.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix focuses on bringing life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities to youth faced with difficult and challenging circumstances.  Last year 31,600 youth benefited from the 10 Clubhouses located in the central and west area Valley , a full-service dental clinic and outreach services.

Swift Charities for Children is committed to helping open the doors of hope and opportunity to the three new clubhouses, including the Jerry Colangelo Clubhouse, resulting in even more children in our Valley having access to the life-changing programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix!

West Valley : YMCA

The Valley of the Sun YMCA Mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.  Swift Charities for Children is dedicated to helping the YMCA achieve their mission.  We are currently working on a Spring Cleaning Clothing Drive with the YMCA’s of the West Valley that will be held April 14th at their annual Healthy Kids Day Event.

This is an opportunity for kids and families to “Put Play in Your Day,” a popular theme of the YMCA. The YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day is the nation’s largest initiative designed to help children and families discover and sustain healthier activities and habits.

The YMCA’s of the West Valley, in collaboration with their branches nationwide, have been working to combat the dangers of obesity and inactivity.  YMCA’s Fitness for Kids programs have been launched Valley wide.  There are many options for kids to get active and have fun while learning healthier habits.

$50,000 Donated to the West Valley Child Crisis Center

Good causes Valley wide are benefiting from our donations

Swift Charities for Children, in conjunction with the Phoenix Coyotes Charities had the honor of making a donation in November for $50,000 to the West Valley Child Crisis Center .  This is the first of the many check presentations to come with our professional sports partners.

The West Valley Child Crisis Center is in the business of saving children’s lives.  This might sound overstated until you enter the shelter and hear some of the stories of the children that have been provided a safe home in a time of desperate need.  On any given day, you can find children that have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services for reasons such as broken limbs, burns, cuts, bruises, emotional or sexual abuse, abandonment, or extreme neglect- sadly caused mostly at the hands of the people they love the most.

Another donation of $50,000 was made in March at a subsequent Coyotes home game.  The proceeds from that donation have been given to help build the new Boys and Girls Clubhouse in Glendale .
